What's Your Fat Loss Strategy?

Summer's here (allegedly in the UK!). Time to hit the beach. Whats the first thing almost everyone does if they need to lose weight?

Usually it's to restrict food intake (calories). This does work in the short term, but whose got the time or inclination to weigh and measure everything they eat or drink? The body very rapidly adjusts to the reduced calorie intake, so it's back to the drawing board.

The mindset then is to increase exercise duration.Go "aerobic" for long slow distance, get into a "fat burning zone". Would it surprise you to learn by doing this "steady state" aerobic training you are actually teaching your body to store fat?

What's required is short , sharp intense training using as many muscles as possible, thereby burning maximum fat.

Consider this scenario:

John runs for 30 minutes, he burns around 350 calories while he's running, then around around another 100-150 calories for the next 60-90 minutes as he recovers from the exercise. Lets say for arguments sake he burns a total of 500 calories.

Fred trains for 25 minutes with a kettlebell, using PERIPHERAL HEART ACTION TRAINING
principles. He burns around 400 calories in the 25 minutes BUT he carries on burning around 50 calories per hour over the next 24-36 hours.

In total he burns around 1800 calories from the exercise session as opposed to 500.

(NB the actual figures will vary from person to person, due to factors like age, muscle mass, fat levels etc)

Check out this report from
ACE (The American Council on Exercise)

The reason is that he is using all the muscles in his body in the course of his training, whereas John is predominately using his legs.

Another benefit of training this way is you feel energised after training, not totally wiped out as you do with almost every other type of exercise.

See the difference training with kettlebells can make in you body composition, energy levels and fitness.

Five exercises, around 20 minutes per session,3 sessions a week.
That's what stands between you and a kick-ass body.
